Irrfan Khan: The End of Pi

Image
Today is April 29th. For a few moments, the entire country stopped obsessing over Coronavirus, to express sorrow towards the tragic loss of Bollywood actor Irrfan Khan at the age of 53. It is a huge loss for the Indian film industry. Known for his subtle and effortless acting, he did complete justice to every role throughout his career. Irrfan Khan was one of Indian cinema's finest actors and among its most successful ambassador in Hollywood. He made his mark in Bollywood with movies like  Maqbool  and  Haasil . I never watched these movies. I think it was a mistake now, but I will surely watch them soon. As far as I can remember, the first time I watched him act in a movie was  Life in a Metro . I was blown away by his acting in  Lunch Box.  I also admire his versatility. Be it a comic role or a serious one, he never disappointed. He lacked the looks for a traditional Bollywood romantic lead but made his name as a character actor in Hindi cinema and Oscar-winni

Day 5: Quarantine Diaries

Image
Today is April 28th. I got up in the morning thanks to the conversation between my mother and my sister. The first thing that came to my mind was that it is my grandmother's birthday. She turns 80 today. Remembering birth dates is not my thing. But I remembered that today was my Aajji's (Marathi for grandmother) birthday because of my mom and sister. They ordered a black forest cake yesterday. I brushed my teeth, washed my face, and went to Aajji's bedroom to give her best wishes. Turning 80 today, she can hardly sit or walk. She looked happy as both her favourite grandchildren were with her. I still remember she used to play cricket with me when none of my cousins would. She used to scold all my elder cousins but never shouted at me. They say a grandmother remembers all of your accomplishments and forgets all of your mistakes. I hope she does the same.  We had a cake cutting session in the evening. We clicked photos. On such occasions, my mom loves showcasing her

Day 4: Quarantine Diaries

Today is April 27th 2020, and I spent my day exactly like the image above. Today I had no interest in doing any sort of work at all. I didn't read or do some software practice on my laptop.  I was feeling so lazy today that I thought twice about taking a bath but then it is so hot and humid here that I forced myself into it.  I watched a series on Netflix, chatted on  WhatsApp , liked pics on  Instagram , Facebook. It is one of those days we all have now and then when we just don't want to anything and lie on the couch the entire  day.  The only thing I did with no hesitation today was workout. I have decided that no matter how bored or lazy or tired I am feeling in the near future I will never skip workout. I have started getting in shape and I don't want to lose it ever again.  There's nothing much to talk about today, let us all hope tomorrow will be a more productive day in my life.

Book Review:- Thinking Straight by Darius Foroux

Image
I am not a book reading kind of person. Frankly, this is just the second book I had read in my entire life. I started reading books in this lockdown period as I had nothing much to do. I downloaded Kindle and began searching for books. This book caught my attention because I am one who has a lot of thoughts in my mind at one point in time. I immediately bought it and started reading it.  Author of the book is Darius Foroux, is a productivity writer and trainer. Reading 'Thinking Straight' gives you instant motivation. It tells you how to prioritize your thoughts based on the situation. It helps you to control your mind to improve your life, career, relationship and business.  The author has made use of beautiful quotes by philosophers, mathematicians etc. to explain his point in this book. The author says, and I quote "You are the only one who knows your strengths, values, skills and desires. Don't think about what has happened in the past for too lo

Day 2: Quarantine Diaries

Today is April 25 2020. I woke up late than usual today. Was watching a very interesting series on Amazon Prime late last night called ' Fleabag ', which is the reason I overslept. I began my day with a cup of tea and biscuits and then helped my dad in the garden. We cleaned the garden, watered the plants.  After that we all had breakfast. I took a bath and began practicing Photoshop. FYI I quit my job 10 days back as I was feeling jaded at it. I will be completing 3 years in my company this June which will also be my last month at work. In this free time I am trying to improve my technical skills as well as writing skills which is also why I have started blogging once again.  I read one chapter of the book I am reading called 'Everybody Writes' by Ann Handley. I never liked reading books but this lockdown time has made me do things which I will not d o normally. I also started working out because I am one of those who gain weight just like that. I don't need specia

It's Master Blaster's Birthday

Today is 24th April 2020 the birth anniversary of 'God of Cricket'  Sachin   Ramesh   Tendulkar . I am huge cricket fan. I come from the generation which had the privilege to watch great players from  Sachin   Tendulkar , Brian Lara, Rahul  Dravid , Shane Warne, to  Virat   Kohli , MS  Dhoni  and AB de Villiers. What makes  Sachin  stand out from all these legends is his approach towards the game.  Harsha   Bhogle  put it the best: " Sachin  was the master of the game, but behaved like  the servant of  the game." What I feel is that he always put the team ahead of personal milestones, but there are many people who don't believe this.  Everybody those who love cricket are all familiar with his entire journey of becoming a legend of the game so I am not going to repeat the same things again but what makes me think about his entire struggle is that he never gave up at any point in his life. Even in tough times he fought his way out.  I always remember hi

ABP Majha Fiasco

On April 15 a huge mob of around 1000 migrant daily wage workers gathered near  Bandra  Railway station, thus sparking a huge ruckus among the journalist community. A journalist named Rahul  Kulkarni  from renowned Marathi news channel  ABP   Majha   was arrested  for allegedly giving away fake/false news on his channel. Many journalists came up to support Rahul  Kulkarni  and oppose governments action.  My take on this entire episode is bit different. What I feel in the first place is that Rahul  Kulkarni  did give away a news which turned out  to be  false. He should have been more careful in lockdown situation in a country like India where rumours spread quickly. On this many people argue that why would a  non-marathi  mob watch a Marathi news channel. This argument is completely baseless because you can't just get away by giving wrong information with full and then argue about whether those people watched the news or not.  In recent we have seen a lot of TV news channel getting
