500 Not Out: Stuart Broad is a Legend Now

Image
(Stuart Broad Celebrating his 500th Test Wicket Photo Courtesy: Twitter) For all the great things he has achieved, the name Stuart Broad is directly proportional to the iconic moment of Yuvraj Singh hitting him for six sixes in an over at the 2007 T20 World Cup. But on a dull final day of the third Test in Manchester, Broad claimed an incredible milestone of his career. He picked up his 500th Test wicket, joining the league of legends. He is only the fourth pacer to reach the mark after Courtney Walsh, Glenn McGrath and his fellow teammate James Anderson. Just shows us how difficult it is for a fast bowler to take those many wickets. He is also the second quickest to reach the mark, 12 years and 226 days after making his Test debut against McGrath, who got there in 11 years and 251 days since his debut. Achieving this feat was not a cakewalk for Broad. He had his ups and downs. The son of a former England opening batsman, Stuart Broad broke into the international circuit at the age of

British Grand Prix 2020 Preview: Another Lewis Masterclass at Silverstone?

Image
(Mercedes F1 car W11 Photo Courtesy: Twitter) Formula One returns after a week-long break with the second triple-header of the season with back-to-back British Grand Prix. Lewis Hamilton will be a strong favourite to win, having claimed the record for most wins (6) at Silverstone. After a disastrous Austrian Grand Prix, the defending champion found his mojo with poles in the next two rounds. Valtteri Bottas, his Mercedes teammate and winner of 2020 season opener will be eager to get his title challenge on track. With two rounds at Silverstone, Mercedes is expected to dominate on a track suitable for W11. Bottas is currently five points behind Hamilton in the championship table. (Red Bull's RB 16 Photo Courtesy: Twitter) Red Bull may have the second quickest car on race-day, but in reality, after the first three races, they look lost. The car lacks outright pace compared to Mercedes. In the two races Max Verstappen finished, he has been in a league of his own. The two podiums finish

(Joe Root with the winning Trophy Photo Courtesy: Twitter) In the final day of the series, the West Indies batting collapsed like a house of cards. With a 269-run win, England retained the Wisden trophy. (Ollie Pope and Jos Buttler Photo Courtesy: Twitter) Day 1 of the Test belonged to England after the hosts recovered well from 122/4 before tea to finish the day at 258/4. Ollie Pope was the architect of England’s remarkable comeback. Pope scored a blazing 91* off 142 balls. Jos Buttler who played second fiddle to Pope scored an unbeaten 56. Both piled up a crucial 136-run partnership for the fifth wicket. Earlier in the day, West Indies won the toss and elected to field yet again. The decision seemed to be good for them when Kemar Roach trapped Dom Sibley (0) LBW in the first over of the Test. Captain Joe Root fell prey to Roston Chase's direct hit for 17 just before lunch. Ben Stokes playing as a specialist batsman at no. 4 was knocked over by a peach of a delivery by Roach for 2

Will the 2020 F1 Season be Williams’ Road to Redemption?

Image
(Williams car for 2019 season Pic Courtesy: Google) After a shaky season in 2018, Williams Racing went through the wringer last year. They finished in the bottom of constructor’s championship for two years straight. In 2019, they secured only a point in the entire season, their worst-ever campaign in F1 history. Also, the team has been facing a financial crisis due to pandemic pressure. To ensure the future of a team that is still one of the most successful in F1, they have open sale talks. (George Russell in his Williams car Pic Courtesy: Twitter) But the start of 2020 season brought some encouragement for them. George Russell has impressed in both rounds at the Red Bull Ring and recorded their first-ever Q2 appearance since 2018. Last weekend, he made it Q2 for the second time in a row, but this time he was joined by his teammate Nicholas Latifi. It was the first instance after Monza 2018 that Williams had both its cars in Q2. (Williams Racing team principal Claire Williams Pic Court

England vs West Indies 2nd Test Review: Stokes Stars as England Level Series

Image
(England team celebrating  Pic Courtesy: Google) England produced a stellar performance in the second Test to secure a victory by 113 runs and level the series 1-1.  (Jofra Archer Pic Courtesy: Google) West Indies came into the second Test with their tails up after a historic win in the first Test. The hosts, however, got a major setback just before the start of the Test. England were forced to make a change to their pace attack after fast bowler Jofra Archer was omitted for breaching the coronavirus protocols. (Dom Sibley celebrating Pic Courtesy: Google) For the second Test in a row, we had delayed start due to light rain. West Indies won the toss and elected to field first. With over an hour lost in the morning session, the match began with England openers opting a cautious approach. Roston Chase provided the first breakthrough at the stroke of the lunch, with England posting 29/1. Chase removed Zak Crawley for a golden duck as play resumed in the second session. Joe Root got a star

Hamilton Reigns Supreme at Hungaroring, Equals Schumacher’s Record

Image
(Lewis Hamilton celebrating his win Pic Courtesy: Google) In a race filled with pit stops and drivers struggling with grip, Lewis Hamilton showcased yet another masterclass. He surely has found his mojo back after a disastrous start to the season in Austrian Grand Prix. Lewis Hamilton demolished the opponents in the Hungarian Grand Prix to secure his eighth win at the Hungaroring. With this victory, the British star equalled Michael Schumacher’s record of most wins at a single venue. The triumph also meant that he now tops the leader board of the driver’s championship. Hamilton lapped everyone up to sixth-placed Vettel, proves his sheer dominance. The Mercedes driver hardly had any threat from the opponents, finishing nearly 9 seconds clear of second-placed Max Verstappen. He also bagged the bonus point for the fastest lap. It was quite an eventful race for Max Verstappen who got it wrong on the kerbs on his way to the grid and crashed into the barrier, causing damage to his front wing

Will Joe Root's Men Make a Comeback or will West Indies Create History ?

Image
Before the tour began, nobody expected the West Indies to do well. But with a comprehensive win over the hosts in the first Test, they proved everyone wrong.  They took advantage of the cloudy overhead conditions in the first two days to good effect. The visitors bundled out England for a mere total of 204 in their first innings. With the bat, they showcased tenacity and persistence during a tense chase on Day 5.  In Southampton, England batsmen failed to convert their starts. The only significant batting effort for them came from Zak Crawley (76 off 127) in the second innings. This innings helped him earn a place in the team for the second Test. Denly, who had scores of 18 and 29 in the first Test, faced the axe for throwing away his wicket in Southampton. He makes way for Joe Root in the team. The skipper brings in experience and depth to a vulnerable batting line up. It was a match-winning effort from the West Indian bowlers in the first Test. With a man of the match performance, Sh

Ferrari's F1 Crisis after Disastrous Styrian Grand Prix

Ferrari’s boss Mattia Binotto will be troubleshooting, after the team’s poor performance in the Styrian Grand Prix. (Both Ferraris Colliding in Styrian Grand Prix Pic Courtesy: Google) A bad qualifying became worse when Charles Leclerc and Sebastian Vettel crashed on the first lap, forcing both cars to retire.  Vettel after the retirement said to the press that he was not expecting Leclerc to pull off the move in a tight situation like that. A regretful Leclerc apologised for the incident which happened when he tried to pass Vettel on turn three.  (Vettel's rear wing damage after the crash Pic Courtesy: Google) Previously, both had made contact on the track in the Brazilian Grand Prix last season. It has been a disastrous start for Scuderia this season. 18 out of the 19 points the team has in the constructor's table is because of a lucky podium for Leclerc in the season opener. The second-place finish was mostly due to Red Bull’s retirements and Hamilton’s penalty. (Leclerc'

Hamilton Cruises to Victory, Ferraris Collide

(Lewis Hamilton Celebrating after his win Pic Courtesy: Google) The Styrian Grand Prix was not as dramatic as the Austrian Grand Prix last week. Lewis Hamilton controlled the race from the beginning to secure his first win of the season and 85th of his career. He delivered a perfectly-judged win from pole position as Mercedes secured a one-two finish at the Red Bull Ring on Sunday. The defending champion made amends from a disappointing outing in the season-opener on the same track last week.  (Max Verstappen in his Red Bull Pic Courtesy: Google) Red Bull’s Max Verstappen maintained his second place for a majority of the race. He tried all he could to fend off Valteri Bottas, but minor front wing damage proved too destabilizing as Bottas in the quicker car completed the pass. (Charles Leclerc and Sebastian Vettel's Clash Pic Courtesy: Google) The midfield battle was more exciting compared to the top three. It was close and sometimes breathtaking racing from the evenly matched teams

England vs West Indies 1st Test: Review

The wait was finally over for all cricket fans as international cricket resumed after a break of three months after the COVID-19 pandemic brought the gentlemen’s game to a standstill in March. ( Pic Courtesy: Google) As everyone was gearing up to watch live action the rain played spoilsport as it often does in England. The day was full of conditions that were not what the doctor ordered for cricket lovers out there. 17.1 overs. That's about as much action the first day's play witnessed when cricket returned from a 117-day break. England managed 35/1, losing Dom Sibley for a duck.  ( Pic Courtesy:  Google )                                                    On Day 2, West Indies bowlers came in with intent, especially Jason Holder and Shanon Gabriel. Both of them bowled great lines to catch the English batsmen off-guard. With all ten wickets shared between them, England could manage only 204 in their first innings. Captain Jason Holder picked up career-best 6/42 to demolish the

World without lies?

Image
Lie, a word which everyone hates when someone else does it to you, but everyone has lied at least once in their life. What does lie mean?  According to Google, a lie is an untrue statement with intent to deceive. After reading this, it is clear why people who lie are considered unacceptable. We have time and again been preached by older folks: parents, family, teachers and even friends against lying. But imagine if everyone was mentally incapable of lying and were born to stick to truth and nothing but the truth. Let’s put our imagination to test. Let’s imagine a world without lies. Will there be no disputes, no misunderstandings and no injustice? Abiding by absolute truths will be quite a tough task to pursue. We will not be able to outwit physically stronger or genetically superior people. People will accept fellow men and women with their innate negative thoughts or evil intentions. They will treat them as outcasts as per the level of acceptance. We will have a completely different
